Sunbonnet Sue doll quilt - 17"x24" w/ envelope edge finish - 1/4" spot on back - good condition - tied - no batting - $45.00
Hand executed buttonhole stitching
1930s
a few almost invisible repairs can be seen in this doll quilt if you look very closely!
Notice the wonderful old prints used in this quilt! The dark line you see in the photo is a shadow, not dirt or staining.
This photo shows the only area with tiny age spots.
Binding with a pale pink or blue would help increase the life of this quilt and add a "frame" around the dolls.
20 little "Sues" all hand appliqued - blocks are 11 1/2" and joined together with herringbone stitches in white thread.
hand quilted around appliques - nice small stitches - "Sues" are 10" tall and 7" at widest point of dress
The background for the applique work, the borders and the backing are of the same good quality white cotton ...this is a very soft quilt. It has been used and washed frequently and there is some fade to the prints, especially the pinks. Condition is rated as FAIR due to 50% of the top edge showing fraying and wear, and because someone used fabric glue in three spots as a repair technique! Top border is two inches wide' borders on sides and bottom are 4 1/2".
The quilt is tied, almost invisibly, with white cotton thread.
72" x 84" - cotton prints thick wool batting - GOOD condition
Some of the prints in the quilt and a peek at the pretty stripped feedsack fabric used for top and bottom borders.
$345.00
Backing is the same weight unbleached muslin as top.
Although quilt has been cleaned, these spots remain on back.
The above shows the two areas on backing where red dye from a print used in the top bled through, resulting in a GOOD rather than VERY GOOD condition classification. Quilt originally was a milk chocolate brown from never being cleaned! Hand quilted. Muslin binding has been attached by machine stitching top and back. Backing has been machine seamed in four sections. No repairs or damage. Very warm and still very usable.
Light pink and a dark "grape" or "eggplant" shade of purple quilt with a pink binding and backing. Very Good Condition. This quilt might have been made as early as the 1930s.
$ 275.00
Quilt blocks and top appear to have been made using fabrics from 1878 -1900.
Pretty "cheater cloth" cotton backing
With blocks from pre-1900 and a backing from the late 1920s to early 1940s, this 80" x80" Mennonite pieced sampler is different and oh, so pretty. EXCELLENT CONDITION - $1,250.00
This old quilt has seen much use but still is dramatic on the bed! The black binding is frayed along most of the edges and there are places where the black fabric used in the blocks is starting to thin. The quilting is done along the seams inside the white block pieces. Great for a cabin or summer home. $ 365.00
79" x 80"
one of the three "bonus" quilts in the T. Black Collection
Small floral backing appears to be a feedsack fabric
There is such a delightful collection of fabrics from the Depression Era in this quilt. It is very soft but rates the term "shabby chic" due to its POOR condition. Threadbare in places, worn binding, some staining, it still has great quilting and lots of feedsack fabrics in the blocks. Good for a cutter quilt or to rescue fabric for those repair/restoration projects you may have in mind. $185.00
Purchase this quilt separately or have it included FREE with any other quilt over $500.00 from the T. Black Quilt Collection.
66" X 67"
HEAVY WOOL SUITING pieces
Note the highly unusual and creative way in which the quilter reinforced the section tied with the white wool yarn!
A heavy "farm" or utility quilt made circa 1930, this SQUARE IN SQUARE quilt is in VERY GOOD condition. $345.00
This LOG CABIN has some fabulous pre-1900 prints. The red in the center is the fire and the yellow is for the hearth - first one I've seen done this way. The quilt is in FAIR condition, but the owner has extra fabric from this time period which she will include for repairs. * This quilt may be purchased "as is" or included as a "bonus" quilt with any other quilt from the T. Black Collection over $500.00
